If your door shakes when you close, a new latch may be all that is needed to fix the problem.It’s difficult to identify the screws that hold the latch to the door, but there’s usually a tiny slot on the trim plate that lets you to insert a screwdriver and take it off. Make sure the latch is properly positioned in the slot and lined up with the screw chambers, and then use the new screws to attach it to the strike plate and door frame.Before installing the new handle, be sure to measure your current backset (the distance from the centre of the large hole on the front surface of the door to the edge). You should also check that the size of the latch on the new handle is a good match to this measurement.If you’re replacing the latch or handle or handle, or if the old lock cylinder is damaged then you’ll require an entirely new one. If you’re not switching locks, a new lock should fit inside your existing recess, and also work with your current keys.
